Toxic Water In
Camp Lejeune

Service members and their families living in Camp Lejeune used contaminated water to drink, cook with, and bathe for years. The water was made toxic by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These compounds have been linked to several severe health conditions, including death.

It is believed the source of the contamination is a dry cleaning facility that had operated in Camp Lejune for many years. After the closure of the facility, the level of VOCs decreased dramatically. However, many health concerns had already taken a toll on the residents of Camp Lejune. These VOCs are harmful carcinogens that are dangerous when exposed to humans, including:

Benzene

Trichloroethylene (TCE)

Tetrachloroethylene

Perchloroethylene (PCE)

Vinyl Chloride (VC)

The toxic water in Camp Lejeune has been linked to a number of serious health risks, including (but not limited to):
Kidney Cancer
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Multiple Myeloma
Leukemia (All Types)
Liver Cancer
Bladder Cancer
Parkinson’s Disease
Kidney Disease
Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma)
Cardiac Defects
Pancreatic Cancer
Breast Cancer (Male or Female)
Rectal Cancer
Prostate Cancer
Esophageal Cancer
Central Nervous System Cancer (Brain or Spinal Cord)

Infertility (Male or Female)

Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022

Many veterans or individuals who have tried to file claims in the past have been unfortunately denied, causing more pain and suffering. The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is a new law seeking senate approval. The law will ensure anyone living at Camp Lejeune from 1953 and 1987 and have suffered from the effects of contaminated water will be compensated for their injury.

The bill would also allow veterans and individuals who were stationed, lived, worked at, or were exposed in-utero to file a claim in U.S. federal court, regardless of whether they have been diagnosed with any specific illness or disease.
