Houston's COVID19 Vaccine

As the omicron wave subsides, a nationwide vaccination campaign is taking place. One of the first cities to announce a vaccination plan is Houston.

Harris County Public Health is administering the COVID-19 vaccine. It is available free to residents. There are a number of health providers in the Houston area offering the shot. Some of these are local pharmacies, grocery stores, and hospitals. You can check the Texas Department of State Health Services' map for locations.

If you have questions, check with your doctor. A pediatrician can also help you locate a vaccine in your area. They can explain the process and tell you where to get it.

In addition, there are some vaccinations that aren't available in the Houston area. This includes the hepatitis B vaccine. Hepatitis B vaccines are common childhood shots that use the same technology.

If you're worried about obtaining the vaccine in the Houston area, check with your child's pediatrician. Parents can also find answers on the CVS website.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is given in one-third of the dose that teens receive. The doses are provided by a number of providers, including CVS, H-E-B, Kroger, and Randalls. Your child will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

The vaccine is also available through VA Houston and the CHAMPVA program. Children who are CHAMPVA beneficiaries can be vaccinated at the VA Houston facility. All Veterans are eligible for the vaccine.

While there are many options for getting the shot, some people are exempt from it. For example, employees of Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital are not required to be vaccinated. However, they are required to comply by June 7. These workers are not paid until after they have received the vaccination.

There are also a number of companies that are stopping short of making shots mandatory. Many employers will have to balance ensuring that their workforce gets vaccinated with the need to ensure that employees aren't sick while they're working.

Regardless of your position, the City of Houston has taken the first step in helping to spread the message that a shot is worth the risk. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced a COVID-19 vaccination incentive program last week. Today the Houston city council approved the plan, which includes a $150 incentive for those who get a shot.

Additionally, the Health Department is handing out 20,000 Mastercard gift cards. After receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, you will be given a $100 gift card. Those who get a second dose will get a $50 gift card.

Lastly, those who aren't able to get a shot in the Houston area can seek the shot from a clinic in their area. Several healthcare providers in the Houston area have plans to offer shots to kids as soon as possible.
