Guests can find everything they need from a food hall to a concert venue, and more. The Post Houston
POST Houston is a mixed-use development that encompasses around 500,000 square feet of mixed-use spaces. It is part of a larger adaptive reuse of the downtown Post Office site. This new complex will serve as a cultural hub and gateway to a new public realm in the heart of downtown Houston. In addition to the mixed-use spaces, the project features a five-acre rooftop park. With its unparalleled view of the downtown skyline, the rooftop park provides a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. There are two restaurants and recreation areas on the rooftop.
The Barbara Jordan Post Office, which used to be an iconic modernist industrial facility, has been converted into a mixed-use cultural center. OMA partner Jason Long designed the renovation and transformed the former post office into an architecturally stunning and aesthetically pleasing facility. After the building closed in 2015, Lovett Commercial began planning the redevelopment of the building. As part of the project, the company received $23.7 million in federal historic tax credits to cover the costs of transforming the building.
The first phase of the revitalization of the Barbara Jordan Post Office opened to the public in November. This portion of the building features a new restaurant and food hall, a live music venue, and a five-acre rooftop park. On November 13 and 14, 40,000 people were given special access to the newly redeveloped facility. Throughout the weekend, the building was open to the public for the first time.
Visitors to the market can sample the local food and beverages, from halal tacos to Vietnamese soups. There are more than 20 different food vendors and products, including ice cream, coffee, and juices. While there is limited parking, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is US$ 5 per hour, and there are no free parking spots available. To make a reservation, visit the website and enter your license plate number.
The Concert Series on Skylawn, which is a five-acre rooftop garden, will also be open. During the concert series, visitors will be able to listen to the best tribute bands and cover bands in Texas. A statue honoring Jordan will be placed outside the former post office administration building.
In addition to the market and the concerts, there are exhibitions and events at POST Houston. Visitors can also take a tour of the new building and learn more about its history of the building. They can also participate in yoga classes on the rooftop park.
