Houston Zoo - The Zoological De Houston

The Houston Zoo is a world-class attraction located in Herman Park. Founded in 1922, this zoological park has been recognized by Parents magazine as one of the Ten Best Zoos for Kids. It’s home to more than 4.500 exotic animals representing more than 800 species and is operated by the not-for-profit Houston Zoo, Inc. Zoológico De Houston

The Zoo’s guiding philosophy is to deliver outstanding animal care, as well as a smart, fun, and inspiring guest experience. It strives to empower guests to save wildlife in the wild through simple behaviors, and a portion of admission prices and membership fees go toward conservation projects.

To be a leading conservation resource in Texas, connecting communities with wildlife and inspiring action to save the planet’s most precious gifts.

Houston Zoo is dedicated to creating naturalistic animal habitats and providing engaging educational experiences that inspire our guests’ curiosity and broaden their understanding of the complexities of wildlife.

Visit the World of Primates exhibit to see 19 diverse primate species, including lemurs, gibbons, howler monkeys, and orangutans. Follow a boardwalk through a lush forest habitat to encounter these beautiful creatures up close.

You can also visit the Reptile and Amphibian House, which features several venomous reptiles and exotic amphibians from around the world. Keep an eye out for a blue iguana, crocodile monitor, and reticulated python.

Large Carnivores

The Houston Zoo is known for its diverse collection of large carnivores, which are a firm favorite among visitors. Species like lions, tigers, and African wild dogs can be found here. There are also opportunities to see the fastest land animal on Earth - the cheetah.

Seeing these amazing animals is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you can get the chance to do so by booking an Animal Encounter. During this experience, you can spend time with one of the zoo’s rescued animals and learn about their life and habitat.

The Zoo’s commitment to conservation goes far beyond its gates, as it supports wildlife conservation initiatives in more than 20 countries worldwide. Through these partnerships, the Houston Zoo aims to connect its guests with animals and inspire them to take action to save their wild counterparts. A portion of every ticket and membership fee goes toward these important conservation projects, as well as other initiatives at the zoo.
