Houston is a big city that has something to offer everyone. There are museums, parks, sporting events, and plenty of places to eat. A large part of Houston's economy is made up of aerospace manufacturing, engineering services, and petroleum and natural gas pipelines. One of the things I love about Houston is its diverse population. For instance, it has the highest proportion of minority citizens in the US, and is the least white. In fact, fewer than half of the residents are of European ancestry. You'll find more representations of other countries in Houston than in any other major US city.
The downtown area of Houston is also a cultural mecca. Here, you'll find an extensive network of art museums, including the Menil Collection and the Museum District. And, of course, you'll find an extensive theatre district. The Theater District is home to the world-renowned Houston Grand Opera and other professional performing arts organizations.
Another thing to consider is the quality of life in Houston. Although it is not the most affluent city, the area still enjoys the luxury of access to outdoor recreational areas, such as the Mark Twain National Forest and Sam Houston National Forest.
Aside from all the attractions, Houston is also a city of diverse neighborhoods. Most of the communities in Houston are fairly commutable, but some are more suited to commuters than others. Some of the more affluent neighborhoods in Houston are located along the Bayou and near the Loop. These neighborhoods tend to suffer from the longest commute times. However, most of the best neighborhoods in Houston are not far from the heart of the city, so getting to your work or play is not much of a problem.
In addition, the city is an exciting destination for those who enjoy a little history. For example, the Battle of San Jacinto, which took place in 1836, is preserved as a state historic site. The city was also home to the first domed stadium, the Astrodome.
Houston is also a great place for young people to live and make a living. As a matter of fact, the city's unemployment rate is lower than the national average.
Houston is also home to several professional sports teams, including the Houston Rockets basketball team, the Houston Texans football team, and the Houston Astros baseball team. Plus, it is home to the renowned Houston Grand Opera, a professional ballet company, and the Houston Ballet.
