The Texans have a lot of talent on their roster. DeAndre Hopkins is a generational talent at wide receiver. Dameon Pierce is an elusive running back who can power his way through defenders. He has already accumulated 1,026 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season. Whether or not he gets the starting job alongside Marlin Mack remains to be seen.

The Texans were a solid team on both sides of the ball last year. Their defense, led by J.J. Watt, was highly regarded. A gruesome knee injury ended Watson's brilliant run early in the season, but he is ready for more work in 2020.

The Texans' defense is built around speed. Its nose tackle usually sits in the middle. But it has also received a boost from Romeo Crenel, who has given the defense fresh looks. By creating timely mismatches and spreading players across the field, Crenel has helped the Texans' defense.

There are many young pieces to the Texans' defensive line. Several rookies will make their debuts this year. One high-upside player in that group is rookie safety Derek Stingley Jr. While he may not be a starter, he will be a useful fantasy football piece. Another youngster in that group is Jalen Pitre.

The Texans have a solid defensive core. They're not afraid to use two or three strong defenders on the same linebacker. As for the linebacker position, Christian Kirksey is gone. And while he's an excellent player, his absence leaves a void in the linebacker room. Hopefully, DJ Reader will fill that gap and bring some speed to the position.

On the other hand, the Texans have the oldest group of wide receivers in the NFL. John Metchie III is an Alabama product who excelled at the slot. He has been battling leukemia but is making remarkable progress. He's scored 14 career touchdowns and has 151 career catches.

Although the Texans lost a number of starters from last year, they still have plenty of young talent. The offensive line is in decent shape, and there are several new faces in the secondary. Nonetheless, the reshuffling of the roster will result in growing pains. That being said, the Texans are a strong bet to improve in the next couple of seasons.

The Texans have a strong draft class this year. In addition to the selections they made in the first and fourth rounds, they bolstered their offensive and defensive lines with the picks they acquired from Cleveland in the trade for Deshaun Watson. Those picks should give them a lot of hope for the upcoming season.

This season could be a real surprise. The Houston Texans have a lot of potentials, and they should be a threat in the AFC South.
