Houston is a subtropical city located in the southern part of Texas. It is surrounded by water including bayous and lakes. The area is drained by a network of man-made drainage ditches. Its climate is warm, humid, and wet. Houston Texas Weather

Houston's mean temperature ranges from 47degF to 95degF. On average, temperatures are lower than in the other southern cities of Texas. However, the weather can be extremely cold in winter. Aside from the cold season, Houston also experiences a rainy season. During the rainy season, the chances of thunderstorms are high. They can also bring flooding to low-lying areas.

As a result of Houston's location near the Gulf of Mexico, it experiences very hot summers. Temperatures tend to rise well into the 90s in the daytime. However, at night, the temperature can drop to freezing. Most nights in Houston will stay above 50 degrees, however.

When it comes to rainfall, the drier season is between September and May. Weather conditions during this time will vary from month to month. Rainfall can be very heavy, however. This can also cause widespread flooding. Especially in the low-lying areas along the San Jacinto River, property damage can occur.

During the spring, the temperatures in Houston will start to rise. There are several days during the spring when the temperature will reach 80+ degrees. These days can occur any month of the year.

Spring in Houston is generally a mild and pleasant month. The average temperature is 56-64 degF at night. Despite the mild weather, there will still be plenty of sunshine. Winds will be out of the north, making for moderately breezy conditions. Gusts will be around 25 mph.

During the summer, sea breeze showers can form. These showers are part of the North American Monsoon. Although they can be a cause of flooding in low-lying areas, they usually bring a welcome cooling to the area.

In the fall, the temperatures will begin to dip. Fortunately, the cooler air is not expected to last long. Hopefully, the rain will not continue. Eventually, a cold front will push in, bringing low wind chills and some showers. Those showers should be less frequent and are not likely to have any significant impact. Those that do occur will be brief.

The wettest months of the year are April, May, and June. During this time, the chance of wet days is at its highest. Additionally, the drier season is longer. Normally, rainstorms will happen on an average of six days a month. However, during the drier period, there are less days with at least 0.04 inches of precipitation.

The warmest months of the year are August and October. High temperatures average about 38/40 degC. Several days during these months have reached record highs.

The coldest months of the year are January and February. Typically, Houston's temperatures are on par with those in central Florida. However, there are some times when the temperatures can be as cold as -8 degC.
